W126: OM603 #14 Head-Ache, P.2

So step two was actual head removal - to make life easier on myself, prechamber removal is done with the head on. Just as well, I hadn't taken any actual removal pictures as in an effort for damage control hands on the job, not on a camera.

In order to remove the prechamber lock rings, you need something to this effect. This is the MB tool for lock ring removal.

Afterwards, a tool screws into the prechamber itself and a slide hammer to the tool. I use a 5lb hammer for the job - couple solid hits and the chambers pop out without much fuss.

Now to the good stuff. Head removed, wiped down and set on the bench for inspection.

Bad news for this head, cracks on ALL BUT ONE cylinder.

Crack between valves.

Cracks forming between valves, crack present from valve seat to prechamber

Spare head is currently at the machine shop getting work done. Should be ready by the end of the week and this should all be buttoned up once everything comes in. In and out over here!

    1. Hey! Thanks for taking the time to read!!

At the moment, most of everything I do is out of my humble abode of a garage. I'm fully equipped and basically out of space haha enthusiast turned lunatic I suppose. I do work for folks when I'm not knee deep in a project of my own.

  3. I'm having issues removing the exhaust crossover (trap oxidizer delete manifold) from the exhaust manifold. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
